The Olympic Games are a big deal for United. They’ve been the official carrier of Team USA since 1980 and they genuinely love ferrying America's athletes. The visually- and aurally-thrilling TV spot I wrote for the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014 was a direct reflection of their enthusiasm.
Out-of-home went live in the weeks leading up to the games and the TV :60 first aired during the opening ceremonies (you can view it here). The campaign also had a robust, exciting and engaging social media component.
American athletes who starred in the commercial tweeted about the TV spot from Sochi using #athletesaboard to spark interest in the commercial's big debut. And at the same time, an entire social media team tweeted using the hashtag #teamusafriendly. The video below catalogs the campaign’s great success.
